This exciting, original fast-moving musical centers around a music hall in Havana and the lives of musicians Rolando and Ramona Calderon who call the hall their home. They are about to get their big break to perform for New Year's Eve at the Tropicana, the hottest pleasure palace in Cuba known for dazzling shows, high-stakes gambling and revelers the likes of Marlon Brando, Ernest Hemingway, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, and Frank Sinatra, to name a few. Their 1958 Tropicana dreams are crushed as Fidel Castro and his bearded revolutionaries seize control of Cuba.
This new musical, with book by Carmen Pelaez tells the story of the husband and wife musical team who lose everything when the Cuban Revolution tears apart their hopes and dreams.
As the play progresses to almost sixty years later, we find the couple trying to forget the past in the now devastated Havana Music Hall, but others won’t let them.
Directed and Choreographed by Maria Torres, with the story and original score by Richard Kagan, the new musical captures the pain and joy of the Cuban immigrant experience. Featuring new songs such as "Escape to Havana", “This is the Place of My Birth” “Todo es Mejor en Mi Cuba” and “I Have My Voice,” the music transports you to Havana Music Hall as hearts break and spirits soar against all odds.

Richard Kagan, creator of Havana Music Hall. “When I first visited Cuba, I was moved by the amazing musicians and hearing stories of what happened to them during the Cuban Revolution. Their stories stuck with me and inspired me to write this musical for all immigrants.”
